Santa Clara County Department of Parks and Recreation

In 2003, the Santa Clara County Department of Parks and Recreation elected to create a new model for fee collection at its regional parks.  After a 5 year history of concessioning the automatic gate collections, SCC chose to acquire a system that would meet it's critical audit and security specifications.  A months long analysis and testing of the product spectrum followed that revealed key benchmarks the new system would need.  Understanding the nature of the industry and the technological improvements that were available was critical to the selection.

UPC Gate Services was created to help Santa Clara County achieve its revenue and service goals.  Our interest in customer and park visitor services was well established before we began to consider automation of entrance stations.  Our experience as park managers gave us confidence to create a complimentary solution to the agency that did not force significant cut backs in staff.  The automated pay station provided coverage and accountability for significant portions of the day, week and season that could not be covered in any other way and still be cost-effective in times of budget restraint.

East Bay Municipal Utilities District

UPC Gate Services has been selected to supplement the entrance gate needs at San Pablo Reservoir.  Daily gate personnel expenses were a fixed cost that could be reduced as a cost containment move.  Staff could be shifted out of the entrance station and into the field where other duties were assigned.  The revenue stream remained intact and customer satisfaction with the overall park experience was improved.  The "ATM" is an acknowledged feature of the retail environment and the Intellipay systems are simple to use and provide convenience through acceptance of credit cards and season pass "smart cards" that was quickly appreciated.
